First Annual At the Net Tennis Event and Tournament - September 21, 2002

The First Annual "At the Net" Tennis Event and Tournament was held on September 21, 2002, and featured approximately forty doubles teams and twenty singles players, as well as an enthusiastic group of spectators. All of those in attendance were treated to a fun-filled day, including a buffet breakfast and lunch as well as an afternoon awards ceremony, with refreshments and music throughout the day. Players received "At the Net" T-shirts, visors, gift bags and a guarantee to play at least one match on center court in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The play was fun and competitive. The intermediate level, final doubles match pitted the team of Brian Grodin and Joey Trachtman versus Derek Josephs and Gog Boonswang, with Derek and Gog prevailing, while the advanced level, final doubles match ignited the crowd as Mike Sass and Sean Groenewald overpowered Rob and Howie Endelman. In the singles final match, it was Jon Vogel outlasting Tony Sparber.

The day also featured a sweepstakes, silent auction and live auction that featured items such as a Personal Chef Service with an Intimate Dinner for two at any location and a seat to a New York Giant football game on the sidelines with Giant great Phil McConkey, among many other amazing items. There were also balloon prizes and a chance to play against U.S. tennis professional Aaron Krickstein, along with autographed photographs after the match.
