Gala Spotlight - 2007

TTC would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our second annual fundraising gala, Unmask A Cure, which was held on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Guastavino’s in Manhattan. The event honored Richard I. Horowitz, MD with the 2007 Humanitarian Award; Bruce E. Mosler with the 2007 Spirit of Philanthropy Award; and Nick S. Harris, PhD, AMBLI with the 2007 Scientific Merit Award. The gala was graciously co-chaired by Cheryl A. Conner; Robert Hoffman, M.A.; and Brenda Shiplett.

The event was attended by over 700 people and raised an astonishing $1.1 million for Lyme disease research and education programs. Guests sampled food provided by several top New York City restaurants including Agata & Valentina, Barna, George Guidera and Executive Chef Jacques Larsen of Cobbs Mill Inn, Cook With Class, Edible Arrangements, Gabriela’s, Ivy Bakery, Landmarc, Ruby Foo’s, Thalassa and STK. A special beverage tasting station was provided by Lucid, Absinthe Supérieure.

We were fortunate to have Daryl Hall make a special appearance at Guastavino’s for the gala. He performed a set full of favorite songs, and guests were surprised when Dr. Horowitz joined him on stage to sing an original song they composed about Lyme disease called “The Ballad of the Deer Tick.” Following this amazing performance, Co-Founder of Turn the Corner, Staci Grodin, presented awards to the six Courage Award recipients who are all bravely fighting Lyme disease. Recipients included Christine Beach, Dan Crotty, Jennifer Edstrom, Caroline Patterson, Jacqueline R. Spar and Alex Viserto.

Both live and silent auctions were also exciting points of the evening. The live auction featured, among many great items, breakfast with Steven Cohen of SAC Capital at his Greenwich, CT estate, a week-long stay at a luxury home in Beaver Creek, Colorado, a Daryl Hall experience, a golf experience at Hudson National. The silent auction included a vacation to Lake Tahoe; tickets to Young Frankenstein; a long weekend at Stone Ridge Estates in Concord, VA, including airfare and activities such as horseback riding, hiking and spa services and much more.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and supported Unmask A Cure! Special thanks go to our wonderful sponsors and volunteers who made this evening possible. We hope to see you at Unmask A Cure 2008 next November!
