Turn the Corner Hosts its Fifth Annual Fundraising Event and Debut Gala, Unmask a Cure.
Our fifth annual fundraising event and debut gala, Unmask a Cure, was held at
Guastavino's in New York City on November 2, 2006. Dr. Joseph J. Burrascano, Jr.,was honored with the 2006 Humanitarian Award. Nancy Perry Crotty and John
Crotty were honored with the 2006 Vision of Hope Award. The newly renovated
Guastavino's was a gorgeous site to honor
those who have persevered in the fight
against Lyme disease as well as to raise
significant funds for this very urgent cause.
Unmask a Cure touched upon the fact that
Lyme disease masquerades as many
different illnesses and is, therefore, quite
difficult to diagnose. To accentuate the
theme, staff at the event wore Venetianstyle
eye masks as they served more than
600 guests delicious food and drinks
throughout the evening. The space took on the feel of a warm and playful masquerade
evening in which everyone had the opportunity to take part in the national movement
to "unmask a cure" for Lyme disease.
Sponsors of the evening included Beverly Blank Foundation, For Sale By
Owner.com, Goldman Sachs, AIG, Danny Lirtzman, Jeff and Stacey Feinberg, Dan
and Michele Matthews, Citigroup, Direct Access Partners, Instinet, Lehman
Brothers, Level Global, David and Cindy Reichenbaum, Gillis MacGil Addison, AIG
Environmental, Chapman Capital LLC, Todd Deutsch and Brooke Elder, Ian and Jen
Goodman, Hoenig, In Record Time, JNK Securities, Gregory and Sarah Knight,
Marquis Jet, Miller Tabak & Co., New York
Tick Control, Dipak and Anita Patel,
Skadden, Arps, Slate,Meagher & Flom LLP
and Town & Country Compounding.
Guests enjoyed cuisine from Agata &
Valentina Ristorante, Aurora Gourmet,
Barna, Cité, Cook with Class, Gabriela's,
Osteria del Circo, Ruby Foo's, and STK
Steak House. Live music was provided by
Creations featuring Kim Sozzi, and a
special musical performance by Erin
Crotty, dedicated to Dr. Joseph J.
Burrascano Jr.
The evening's live auction featured various sports packages, including a trip to the
Duke vs. University of North Carolina basketball game in a private jet, a Knicks and
Mets package, as well as trips to Hawaii, California and the oppurtunity to travel to
Chicago to see Oprah Winfrey live. Guests were also invited to help “unmask a cure”
by supporting Turn the Corner's newest research initiatives in the live auction. Unmask
a Cure raised more than $700,000 to support TTC’s mission.
Thanks to all who attended and supported the first-ever fundraising gala, Unmask
a Cure, and to all of our sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible.

Jess Itzler, 100 Mile Man
On November 18th (and 19th for that matter), Jesse Itzler, Advisory Board member of Turn the Corner, and running partner Lance Aldridge ran 100 miles in 24 hours to raise money for Turn the Corner Foundation, among other charities. 100 miles is basically 4 consecutive marathons and the equivalent of running from the Statue of Liberty to Atlantic City.
